Pakistan Food Workers’ Federation is dedicated to empowering women workers ensuring their equal opportunities in employment, union leadership, and safe and conducive working conditions free of gender-based violence and harassment. In this connection on February 18, 2024, the Executive Committee of the Federation made a momentous decision, with unanimous support, they launched a hotline aimed at combating harassment and violence in the workplace. This hotline led by the federation is the first of its kind in Pakistan.

This hotline, seen as a beacon of hope, will be led by a committee comprising five women from federation-affiliated unions. Their mission is clear: to create a safer working environment for women. The committee will work under the supervision of the federation’s General Secretary.

The federation is now gearing up to launch a campaign to inaugurate the hotline, ensuring that every woman worker, whether permanent or on contract feels empowered to come forward and voice her grievances.

In a world where every voice matters, this initiative represents a significant step towards a future where equality prevails. Additionally, the Executive Committee plans to conduct a series of training sessions on ILO Convention 190 and national harassment laws. They will also campaign for the ratification of ILO Convention 190 and Recommendation 206.

This commitment underscores the Federation’s unwavering dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of all workers, especially women, in the food industry.
